Teague-Perkins Family

Edgar Neil Teague, Senior, was born October 24, 1891 in Gaston County, North Carolina, the son of William Perry Teague and Sara Jane Lay.

Ida Victoria Perkins was born February 7, 1894, the daughter of Cephus Pickney Perkins and Laura L Parker.

Neil married Ida Victoria Perkins on November 20, 1909 and together they had eight children. One died at 3 months, the remainder married and had families.

Ida died February 14, 1925, in Gaston County, NC.

(Neil married a widow (and mother of one daughter) Louise Mae Bedsole Ballard on August 24, 1925 and together they had four children. One died at three months, the remainder married and had families. See information about that family at Teague-Bedsole Family)

Neil was a barber for a number of years, but later attended Gardner Webb College and became a Baptist minister. At one time working for the State of NC Baptist Associations, he simultaneously pastored three North Carolina churches ( Piney Grove, Newton Grove and Hoods Grove) and all three had new church buildings under construction at the same time.

Neil died January 21, 1961, in Fayetteville, NC and is buried in Lafayette Memorial Cemetery Park there.

Edith Louise Teague was born August 13, 1910, in Lowell, Gaston County, NC, the first child of Edgar Neil Teague and Ida Victoria Perkins.

Charles Everett Griffin was born June 8, 1906, the son of James Lee Griffin and Edith Elizabeth Doggett.

Edith married Charles Everett Griffin on December 15, 1934, in Spartanburg, SC, and together they had one son, Charles Everett Griffin JR.

Charles died April 2, 1966, in Forest City, NC, where they lived their entire married life.

 

Howard Orial White was born May 12, 1915. Edith married Howie about 1975, and they continued to live in Forest City.

Howard died in January 13, 1996 in Forest City, NC, and Edith continued to live there until moving to be near her son and his wife the last few years of her life. Edith died September 23, 2008. Her funeral and burial was in Forest City, NC.

 

Beulah Estella Teague was born October 11, 1911, the daughter of Edgar Neil Teague and Ida Victoria Perkins, in Lowell, NC. She died December 13, 1911 at the age of 3 months.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Paul Weldon Teague was born June 11, 1913, in Lowell, NC, the son of Edgar Neil Teague and Ida Victoria Perkins.

Margie Carleen Hinson was born July 28, 1914, in Gaston County, NC, the daughter of Elliot A Hinson and Nettie Ballard.

Paul married Carleen August 3, 1930, and together they had one daughter, Joy Nette Teague.

Paul was a barber and worked in shops in Red Springs, NC, and Wilmington, NC. He later owned two barber shops in the Fayetteville, NC area, one on Haymont Hill where he worked and the other in the Eutaw Shopping Center on Ft. Bragg Blvd.

 

 

Paul died October 21, 1980, in Fayetteville, NC, and is buried in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Carleen died February 22, 2000 in Fayetteville, NC, and is buried in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

Arthur Franklin Teague (Ott) was born April 16, 1916, in Lowell, NC, the son of Edgar Neil Teague and Ida Victoria Perkins.

Annie Elizabeth Cutchin was born February 21, 1913, in Norwood, NC, the daughter of Thaddeus Eric Cutchin and Julia Gaddis Maner.

Ott married Lib on November 11, 1933 and together they had five children, Farrell, Bill, Tom, Julia and Joyce.

Ott was a barber in several cities and after a brief stint at the Wilmington (NC) shipyard, he opened a barber shop in a strip mall in Maffitt Village (a residential community in Wilmington), where his family had moved from Fayetteville, NC. In the mid 1940's he purchased property and built his shop in the Sunset Park community of Wilmington. In 1957 he purchased the residence and business of a dentist across the street and moved his family and business there.

Ott was active in the local, state and National Barbers Association, the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and Baptist Churches in Maffitt Village and Sunset Park.

Ott died March 3, 2003, and is entombed in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Wilmington.

Lib died June 15, 2010, and is also entombed in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Arthur Frankin Teague died on 03 Mar 2003 in Porter's Neck, New Hanover, NC.

Annie Elizabeth Cutchin Teague died 19 Jun 2010 in Wilmington, New Hanover, NC.

Oldest child Arthur Farrell Teague died Saturday July 13, 2019 at his home in Wilmington, NC

His wife Geraldine Turner Teague died September 6, 2019 died at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC

 

Earl Lamuel Teague was born February 9, 1918, in Lowell, NC, the son of Edgar Neil Teague and Ida Victoria Perkins.

Fannie Alene Guiton was born March 8, 1920, in Rockfish, Cumberland County, NC, the daughter of Robert Guiton and Lora Pearl Taylor.

Earl married Alene on September 27, 1936 in xxx, and together they had four children, Joan, Earl JR, Linda and David.

Earl was involved in several business endeavors before opening a grocery store, which he operated with his wife Alene, in the Windsor Terrace community of Fayetteville.

 

 

Earl was shot by a person robbing his store on January 23, 1975, and is buried in Lafayette Memorial park in Fayetteville, NC.

Alene died March 27, 2007 and is buried in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

 

Russell lester Teague was born April 6, 1920 in Gaston County, NC, the son of Edgar neil Teague and Ida Victoria Perkins.

Muriel Ernestine (Merle) Taylor was born August 4, 1922, the daughter of......Russell married Merle August 4, 1939. and together they had four daughters, Barbara Jean, Janet Carleen, Carol Ann and Rebecca Leslie.

 

 

 

 

Russell died December of 1980 in Durham, NC, where he was being treated for cancer. He is buried in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, NC.

Merle married Charles Holata about 1995. Charles was born in Czechoslovakia. They had about 14 years together.

Merle died December 22, 2009 and is buried in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, NC.

 

Evelyn Elizabeth Teague was born January 31, 1922, in Lowell, Gaston County, NC, the daughter of Edgar Neil Teague and Ida Victoria Perkins.he was just three years old when her mother died.

 

Joseph Albert (Billy) Wiggins was born January 28, 1920, in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC, the son of Joseph Jesse Wiggins and Mina Victoria Cashwell.


Evelyn married Billy on October 15, 1939 in Dillon, Dillon County, SC, and together they had three children, Victoria Jean, Joseph Albert JR and Robert Neil Wiggins.

 

Billy was a member of the Woodmne of the World, a Navy veteran of World War II and a Captain of the Lafayette Village Volunteer Fire Department. He was the owner/operator of Fayetteville Trailer repair Co. and was an accomplished

Evelyn was a member of the Lafayette Village Fire Department Auxilliary. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She and Billy were both Christians and members of Lafayette Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC.


Joseph Albert (Billy) Wiggins SR died August 30, 1989, in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC, and is buried in Lafafatte Memorial Park in Fayetteville.


After spending most of her life in Fayetteville, Evelyn Elizabeth Teague Wiggins has resided in a nursing home in Raiford, Hoke County, NC, since December of 2003.

 

 

Juanita Rosetta (Jimmie) Teague was born June 5, 1924, in the community of Hardins in Gaston County, NC, the daughter of Edgar Neil Teague and Ida Victoria Perkins.


James Merritt (JM) Smith JR was born August 14, 1920, in Aynor, SC, the son of James Merritt SR and Docia May Smith.


Jimmie married JM on November 25, 1940, and together they had two sons, James Mitchell (Mickey) and Gerald Lee Smith.

 

They lived in Fayetteville, NC, for many years and JM often worked with horses on the racing circuit. Jimmie moved to Kure Beach, NC, working at Pier View Cottages which she and JM later bought and operated for many years. JM even served on the Kure Beach City Council.

 


James Merritt (JM) Smith JR died on December 8. 1999, in Wilmington, NC, and is buried in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC. Jimmie continued to own and operate Pier View Cottages until she sold it in 2005 and retired.
