Edgar Neil Teague was the son of William Perry Teague and Sarah Jane Lay. Sarah Jane Lay was the daughter of William and Catherine Lay. William Perry Teague is believed to have been the William Teague listed in the August 20, 1860 census (of York County, SC) as the son of William Teague and Mary Harris. That William's age of 15 matches what William Perry's age would have been at the time. It could explain some misunderstandings of his birth state, sometimes listed as NC and others as SC, because of the close proximity of that area to North Carolina. Some speculation has also been that the birth occured while traveling.

According to that 1860 census, William Teague and Mary Harris had six children. William the oldest would have been born about 1845, Kirby or Kerby about 1848, Jacob about 1850, Eliza about 1852, Martha about 1854 and Laura about 1858. There is substantial information about Jacob T Teague and wife who lived in the Bessemer City area of Gaston County and are buried there. I have been unable to locate any information about William Teague or Mary Harris Teague after the 1860 census.
