William Monroe Teague was born June 25, 1871. He married Lula Frances Shives and together they had one child, Fannie Zoe Teague, born in Lowell, NC, May 2, 1898. Monroe died May 18, 1898 when Fannie was only 16 days old. Her Mother was only 17 years old, so her Grandmother and Grandfather Teague adopted her, and she became sister to her uncles.

Fannie went through the 10th grade in school, which was unusual for many girls of that day. She was gifted musically. She could play the organ, which her Uncle George gave her when she was six years old. She also played the accordian and Jews harp. She played by ear and by reading music. All her kids, her neices and nephews, and neighbor kids would gather around the organ and sing, while she played. She had a beautiful voice and could sing soprano or alto. She never knew it, but she passed this down to grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her mother remarried Dick Robinson and had a number of children. When any of her half-sisters had babies or were ill, Fannie was called to come care for them. She also helped in her neighborhoods for the same reasons. Doctors came by and picked her up on the way to patient's houses, even when there was a nurse with him. I remember giggling over the name of one nurse, a Miss Higginbothom. I spent many an hour playing with children of the patients, or just waiting for Mom. She was a seamstress. She made dresses, etc., for women without a pattern. They told her what they wanted, she cut them out and sewed them. She also made the clothes for Edith and me, even the bloomers, which were made from flour sacks during the lean years. She also could do most any job in textile plants.

Jesse Thomas Hudspeth was born on 04 Mar 1897 in Iredell Co., NC, the son of John F. Hudspeth and Mary Epse Ervin. Fannie Zoe married Jesse Thomas Hudspeth July 31, 1915, and together they had five children. The info below was copied from the family tree maker file of Helen Marjorie Hudspeth, known now as Marj Weaver.

Jesse Thomas Hudspeth and Fannie Zoe Ella Teague were married on 31 Jul 1915. Jesse and Fannie were fairly well off until the recession, when Jesse lost his textile job. He always provided for his family.. by farming for other people and self.. by working as a carpenter.. by working on the WPA, a government program set up by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to put people back to work. Jesse and Fannie were too tender hearted. His stepmother, Florence, and her three children, Annie Savage (who was brain damaged) Ellen and Leonard Hudspeth lived with us about 1930. Ellen and Leonard were about the same ages as Ernest and Edith, children of Jesse and Fannie. Jesse and Fannie both worked at the Acme Mill, and Florence was to keep house. Florence kept the money, charged the groceries, and when asked to leave, took Fannie's linens, etc. Florence, Annie and Leonard lived with them again at about 1935, when Jesse and Fannie lived in a very small house. Seems Jesse and Fannie were always helping someone. This did not stop with the death of Jesse. Jesse died 20 April, 1938, of an abcessed wisdom tooth. This was in the days before sulfa drugs and the poison got into his blood stream. Fannie died died on 03 Jul 1965 in Gastonia, NC.

Lillie Bell McKenzie was born August 1, 1897, the daughter of Henry McKenzie and Mary Smith.

Dell married Lillie Bell, and together they had several children. The oldest child of Dell was William Ray Teague, but there is some question as Lillie Bell being his mother. The 1930 census lists Dory as 44, married at 39, and Lillie Bell as 33, married at 23. William Ray Teague listed as age 14 was in this census, but there is a question mark by the statement of "son"; they had been married only 10 years. Dell and Lillie had five other children listed in this census, Catherine b Abt 1923, Stella and Della (twins) born Abt May 1925, Blanche b Abt 1927 and Connie b Abt 1928. Several other children are listed in some records, Ernest R Teague b ? who died in 1920 and Ethel Davis Teague who died in 1934, but was not in the 1930 census. According to these records, another child was born in Oct 1936 and died in Dec 1936.
